In Coming Home Again, Scott Roche has crafted a novella that appealed to me as a fan of both sci-fi and M/M romance. The concept of this book is intriguing, and I like where he took it. The characterization is one of my favorite aspects of the book, and not just for the romantic protagonists, Blair and Rogers (who are written quite well - when reading, I sympathized with Blair and wondered about Rogers, and enjoyed getting to know them). I appreciate how even minor characters feel three-dimensio [...]

3.5 * Review written for Love Bytes Reviews.Max has always hoped that he’d find some sign of life on other planets but he certainly never expected to go into work and find that, not only does that alien life emphatically exist, he’s going to be getting up close and personal with it. Giving their unexpected visitor a checkup is perfectly fine, he is a doctor after all, but when his job is threatened unless he can ‘procure’ additional information, at any cost, Max balks before reluctantly [...]

I'm a fan of Scott's writing. For me, this wasn't his best effort. The copy I read was an ARC so it felt a little rushed and unpolished. Without giving too much away, I'll say that I'm probably not the target audience for this book. However, reading this book gave me a new perspective on issue Scott is passionate about.

A Joyfully Jay review. 2.75 starsOkay, so I went into this story expecting a quick, interesting read, as the premise intrigued me immensely. And while this short story had a lot of potential, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. While I enjoyed the characters, the plot itself just didn’t work as well as it should have. Blair and Rogers have their moments where I could feel the edge of their connection, but it certainly wasn’t a focus. In fact, I could even go as far as to say this stor [...]

I thought this was a solidly written, middle of the road short story. My issue with short stories is sometimes I don’t know if I should advocate for them to be longer, or enjoy the impact of the simplicity. Which is where I’m at with Coming Home Again – there are aspects I think would have been better expanded upon, and some aspects that benefit from the shortness. The romance was one that could have been fleshed out – no pun intended and not even referencing a sexual liaison. I was all [...]

Coming Home AgainDoctor Max Blair is stationed at a secure government research facility when he is told to evaluate a visitor from outer space. But this is no alien. He is Captain Michael Rogers, a US Airforce pilot who was abducted in 1948. Behind the growing attraction between the two men, the government officials consider any method necessary to unlock the Captain’s secrets, thus endangering the whole planet…This is a well-balanced mix of science fiction and romance. First off, don’t be [...]

A really fun, campy, modern day flying saucer story. But what was so amazing was how Cold War it felt.Scott Roche 's writing is splendidly clean and fresh. While the romance moved a wee bit fast- it's a novella. I would have rated it five stars but only because I wanted more. Highly recommended sci-fi adventure great new literary voice

Good story, heavy on the romanceThis is a is a sweet little romantic story set within an alien abduction-type scenario. I am not generally a category romance reader but I was engaged enough with characters and events to get through in two sittings. Over all, I enjoyed it.
