Great book and fun, but could use more maps, and specific distances to points on the hikes. I loved the bit where it had hikes that could be accessed from the river (i had the book rafting). This book looks great on a shelf covered in grime, coffee, wine and warped! Also commented up.

I literally read this as I was hiking the Grand Canyon (parts on the way down - obviously I didn't hike to read). It did a great job walking me through the layers and the geologic history. Being a rock head, this was essential to enhance my already awesome experience. I would recommend reading your trail before, and then referring to it if you have questions.

This book is a great accompaniment to a good trail guide for your next hike in the Grand Canyon. All of the tidbits of knowledge contained in this book about things to be seen along the trail make the hike even that much more interesting. The information is well organized by trail and I try to bring a copy of the relevant pages for each of my Grand Canyon hikes!
