Like many other wonderful experiences of discovery, in a happy moment of serendipity I was oh-so-lucky to happen upon a massive exhibition of Gottfried Helnwein at the Albertina museum. I didn't know his name, but I was familiar with his work. His James Dean piece was ubiquitous on college dorm walls; his self portrait Blackout was used by the Scorpions for their platinum selling album of the same name.
