This well written story takes the reader not only into the Victorian society of England with all its rules and expectations, but allows the rare opportunity to see the risks and drudgery of travel at that time From stodgy English formality to a totally different world of South Africa with harshness the norm of the day is eye opening It is seldom that the reader is allowed a broad glimpse that is believable than this tale.

This could have been a good book, but the author appears to have gotten tired of writing it Just as it became interesting, she abruptly ended it, leaving too many questions It was extremely frustrating There should be a sequel or, at the very least the epilogue should be expanded to explain what happened.

Started off okay, but quickly went downhill after Cate and Marcus marry Things then just simply happen without any depth and the plot just bumbles along until THE END.

I thought this book was about triumph over terrible circumstances but it was a story of bare survival Also the love story was just not enough.
