Reading Henri's musings immediately brought to mind Arnold Schwarzenegger's autobiography. Henri's story is essentially the opposite of Arnold's. Everything about Arnold is mega-sized, while Henri fits into a smallish box. Arnold's tale spans continents, while Henri's is confined to a house. Arnold's story is full of ambition and hope, while Henri is tormented by ennui.Arnold's success in basically every field he has applied himself is inspiring, to be sure. But just as much can be drawn from He [...]

I think I will take a nap rather than write a review. What rhymes with ennui?

4.5/5 - Some of the photos are kind of crappy, but you can't help but love Henri (aka "Henry" in real life), an obviously laid-back kitty whose owner has made him justifiably famous. I adore Henri videos and loved the book. I should probably add the fact that the book is a little disorganized, Henri's philosophies seemingly random rather than following a particular line of thought. Henri would probably say it matters not, for we're here and gone . . . or something much more profound.

I'm prejudiced when it comes to Henri, who has proven time and time again to bring a smile to my face; but, this is the perfect humorous coffee-table book. Love it! Here's a sample of Henri's ennui, "Is there a space between being and nothingness? Somewhere we drift without relative position or direction? - Or is that the catnip talking?" - Henri, le Chat Noir.

Le chat Henri is obviously a follower of such as Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Camus, Kafka and others of that ilk who believed that philosophical thinking begins with the human subject and that the predominant value of existentialism is freedom. Henri most certainly subscribes to both of these trains of thought in this delightful, amusing and beautifully photographed little volume. He sets his stall out with 'If I am referred to as a deep thinker, it is only because the majority of cats are barely con [...]

I think this is pretty much a book just for cat lovers. This is an example of a YouTube video being so popular that the creator then wrote a book based on the video.Henri is bored, tired, and disenchanted with life. There are a series of photographs of Henri coupled with his views of the world.Says Henri, "When I watch you go about your activities, make no mistake about my intentions. I am not curious or coy. --- I am judging you."I highly recommend the original Henri YouTube video.youtube/watch [...]

Calling all cat-lovers, Henri, le Chat Noir will surely make you smile. Feline-Philosopher, Henri's insightful musings struck a chord with me. He's cute, he's smart and thought-provoking.In general, Henri does not trust the out side world; he doesn't like when he has to wait for his breakfast, and he sleeps because our world is troubled and he thinks other cats who play with toys, fake mice etc are "delusional".Tastefully done in, what else but "black and white", the photos are terrific and do j [...]

Fun fact: both my husband and I independently selected, wrapped, and gave this book to Veronica, because she is fond of existentialism, and French things, and cats. WE were both right! Yay, us.Veronica's copy, natch

This is a cute little book that presents the existential musings of everyone's favorite philosopher cat along with black and white pictures of Henri in his natural habitat - the thieving filmmaker's house. The presentation is lovely, a nicely designed 6x8" hardback featuring pale green endpapers with a stripe pattern and glossy full black pages with white text. Henri's eloquent nihilism always brings a smile to my face and I'm happy to add his first printed work to my growing collection of "inte [...]

I <3 Henri!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This cat, the existentialist star of a series of black-and-white Internet videos, is probably my favorite philosopher of the modern age. So naturally, I wanted to read this book and bought it when I was ordering some other books online and needed to fill out my order. The book is pretty good--mostly what you'd expect if you're familiar with Henri. Each set of pages features a beautiful b&w photograph, accompanied by a caption that fills you in on Henri's thoughts [...]

Who doesn't love Henri, le Chat Noir? Henri has some wonderful and insightful musings, and some I found quite spot on and some hilarious. Some of my favorites are:"When i watch you go about your activities, make no mistake about my intentions. I am not curious or coy. I am judging you.""I sleep because every time I open my eyes, the world is still there.""I watch cats tapping at toys, chasing them around as though they were real. There is no limit to our delusion.""Looking in the garden today, I [...]

I read Henri's book in one sitting. It's hard not to. It's a short read, but even if it was longer, I would not have been able to put it down. I was captivated. I was alone in my room with the air conditioning on and I was guffawing uncontrollably. I'm telling you, Grumpy Cat may have more of the eye of the public, but I don't think she can stand up to Henri's intelligence and biting wit. Favorite quote: My thumbs are not opposable, yet I oppose everything. If you like the brooding, angst-ridden [...]

"My thumbs are not opposable, yet I oppose everything." so says Henri, the philosopher-cat. His musings will amuse and delight the human reader. If you are a fan of Grumpy Cat or Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey, you'll love Henri, le Chat Noir.My other favorite musing from Henri:"Looking into the garden today, I saw another version of myself meeting my gaze. A celestial counterpart, free in all the ways I am trapped, yet longing for the safety of my prison. It turns out it was just a raccoon."

A gift from some friends of mine, this book captures the musings of the infamous internet celebrity cat Henri. It can be read in seven minutes, which includes photograph staring time, and is a rough equivalent of the average attention span of a feline (if prey is involved). The book is wise.My favoriteEvery search for truth must begin somewhere.—If mine begins on the couch, who are you to judge?

Book #24 for 2015Marta and Caitlin made me read this book because I apparently resemble one of the shots of Henri. They seem to think that Henri and I share an attitude of "My spiritual cup is not so easily filled." And they may have a point. This is an excellent example of its genre, with a great blend of humor, insight, and cute cat photos. A must-read for any cat lover, even those with easily filled spiritual cups.

Really enjoyable snapshot of cats and philosophy that had me laughing out loud. I'm sure the smug superiority of Henri is reflected in much of the feline race. I especially enjoyed his barbed comments about "the white imbecile," his fellow feline housemate. My only complaint is that the black book pages reflect a strong glare, so you have to hold the book at an angle or lean over it to see properly.

a companion book to a series of awesome youtube videos, which are hard to beat. henri is the put upon deep thinker in a household with an imbecile white cat and owners who don't understand:'ultimately, our lives are spent diverting ourselves with one meaningless task after another. and yet, the great mysteries of the universe remain undiscovered so, does it really matter if i peed on the counter?'

If you love the YouTube videos, you are going to love this book. I will admit I missed the French narration and the moving pictures LOL but this book still cracked me up. I enjoyed it immensely! It is short and basically a book of meme-type phrases on one side with pics to go with the phrases on the other side of each page. I was thrilled to see that the "white imbecile" made a few appearances too. Highly recommend to any Henri fan!

If you’ve seen his short films online, don’t expect the book to quite match the mood added by the music and by Henri’s voice (and much-criticized French). But if you love dark philosophical cats, you’ll enjoy these musings (perfectly paired with moody black and white photos). “Is there a space between being and nothingness? Somewhere we drift without relative position or direction? ~ Or is that the catnip talking?” - Henri

Guys, I'm failing at finishing my "read 45 books this year" goal, so am counting this one, because it is a book, and I read it. Shut up.Also - I enjoyed it. Henri is a handsome cat, and he has some interesting things to say. If it were deeper, or funnier, it would be trying too hard. I give it a 3 because I enjoyed it, and I think Henri would scold me for being too enthusiastic with a higher star rating.

A collection of the thoughts and observations of Henri, the philosophical feline. With quotations from French Existentialists and sarcastic observations, Henri's dry wit combined with lovely photographs is a snappy read. I enjoyed his insults and angst. It's everything you've imagined a world weary cat would say. I bet Oscar Wilde had a cat like this. Loved it.

You don't have to be a cat lover to enjoy this book.Henri, a feline philosopher, will soon take his place among the greats, such as Cicero, Gandhi, Thoreau, etc unless he feels he should be in a class by himself. As Henri said, just leaving his book on the coffee table for all to see will make you look smart.

French-disdain meets cat people. This is the most preposterous, ridiculous, hilarious piece of whimsy I have read in some considerable time. The phrase "white imbecile" is going to stay with me for a VERY long time

So I know that pictures of cats with words is perhaps a little cliched, but I always love the absurdly serious ones. "They curse the fur on the bed, but what is shedding if not a reminder of my own spiritual evanescence. It is my soul they vacuum up."Read it. Love it. Tell your friends.

I do love this beautiful cat. I love the original video (2nd one, I think) much better. The man's voice just gives the right tone to the persona. Some of the wording in the book is clunky, is it translated from French? Doesn't flow as smoothly as I imagine Henri muses.

My souvenir From the Internet Cat Video Festival 2013, Minnesota State fair.I have read it all, all 96 pages of despair and unfulfilled longing. I am filled with sorrow, but there is naught I can do about it. I hope the thieving filmmaker is pleased with himself.

Fun and funny musings of a cat. For example, "Sir Isaac Newton wrote, "Truth is ever to be found in simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things." So, no, you should not consider getting a dog."
