Carla's roman trilogy is exceptional. I recommend reading all three books. The Gladiator, The Protector and The Champion. They will bring you to a world where blood lust rules, becoming a Christian is like signing your death warrant and where being a woman left you with little power to protect yourself. Unlike so many historical novels set in the old west, this was a nice change. Until now, I assumed Love Inspired was synonymous with light romance (not that there's anything wrong with that) but thanks to Carla Capshaw I'll have to mentally re-shelve the line. Sparks started flying in chapter one of The Champion and the romantic tension continued to build making this summer read as refreshing as a glass of iced tea, and not nearly as sweet as I expected. Another great book in the series. I have enjoyed each one because they really transport you to Roman times and give you a glimpse of the life of early Christians. So unique. I am sad that this is the last book in the series!

Alexius and Tibi captured my heart from the start in this fast-paced final book in Ms Capshaw's Roman trilogy. I, for one, will miss these heroes and heroines of the ancient world who risked death to follow Christ. Great romance and great adventure all wrapped in deep faith. Bravo!

Alexius is amazing. Just saying While I did not really experience the unsavory side of him, I still saw the fallout of his past actions in a way to make his struggles believable. That he was willing to take in Tibi even though it could cost him his fortune made him a hero in my eyes. I really enjoyed this one! Each of the 3 gladiator stories was unique and inspiring. I especially like the fact that Tibi and Alexius found, in each other, the source of self worth they had been missing. And the fact that their faith healed their spirits. This will take its place among my favorites.

I loved this book so much I read it in two days. This is the first of Ms. Capshaw's that I've read, and I'll definitely be getting her other books. Her vivid descriptions and attention to detail brings the setting of Rome alive. Her characters are well-written. I was really rooting for Tibi and Alexius. A keeper!

I've really enjoyed reading the books in Carla's Roman series. The Champion was just as good as The Gladiator and The Protector and I think its hero was my favorite of the three. Carla's characters always have a tragic past that could break them but always make them stronger. It makes it easy to BE INSPIRED.

The Champion by Carla Capshaw is part of a series that takes place in Ancient Rome. Ancient Rome happens to be one of my favorite historical settings, and that is what compelled me to buy this book. Sadly, this was the last of the series. All three of these stories: The Gladiator, The Protector, and The Champion were amazing reads. They all make it into books I would recommend for people who like clean romance and a good story with a little bit of action/fighting in it. Very good plot, very VERY good plot. 5 stars for that alone. Ancient Rome is one of my favorite era's in history. However, there seemed to be some kind of disconnect. I really liked this book. Carla does a great job with this setting, and I hope to see more in the future. I felt this book wasn't as good as the first one, though.
