**ARC Courtesy of NetGalleyI feel the need to insert a disclaimer that this is Christian fiction. Why? Because I know a lot of people who read romance, thinking there will be explicit scenes (which they love). I’m not going to lie—I thought this would have heavier themes, too, but I didn’t let this fact deter me. The story begins with Tibi, whose father is reckless and demanding. He wants Tibi to find a man to marry, but Tibi is more concerned about her new faith and finding someone whom s [...]

Carla's roman trilogy is exceptional. I recommend reading all three books. The Gladiator, The Protector and The Champion. They will bring you to a world where blood lust rules, becoming a Christian is like signing your death warrant and where being a woman left you with little power to protect yourself. And that is where we find Tibi, a woman in need of Christ and a champion. Alexius of Iolcos was the reigning hero of gladiators. His dark good looks and charming personality were as popular outsi [...]

Unlike so many historical novels set in the old west, this was a nice change. In the old Roman world of gladiators, senators, and the general mistreatment of everyone the upper classes deem “less than”, we discover the story of Alexius and Tibi.A little tough to get going, since I hadn’t read the first two stories in what was obviously a series. But I let go the questions that arose over the mention of other couples and focused on what was going on between the two main characters, which ke [...]

I am in love with Gladiators after reading Carla Capshaw's third book in her Gladiator series. Thanks to the author for sending me a copy!!! I loved the story of Alexius and Tibi. Escaping the wrath a vengeful father leads her into the arms of man she should steer clear of, but God had other plans for both of them. Despite their pasts, they learn to slowly trust each other. It's when the danger of an enraged Father becomes imminent that both learn that only Jesus is their only hope. The fact tha [...]

Ancient Rome believes that women are only worthy of the men they ensnare to marry; powerful, influential men. Tibi is not your typical, obedient Roman woman. And it's not only because she has a fair skin and blond hair, she's headstrong, kind to the poor and the oppressed with a mind and an opinion that she was not afraid to share. But even in her brave countenance, there was only one person who could reduce her to a meek lamb void of any self-importance. Her father had hated her since she was b [...]

Until now, I assumed Love Inspired was synonymous with light romance (not that there's anything wrong with that) but thanks to Carla Capshaw I'll have to mentally re-shelve the line. Sparks started flying in chapter one of The Champion and the romantic tension continued to build making this summer read as refreshing as a glass of iced tea, and not nearly as sweet as I expected. Fans of the line needn't worry, your favorite Love Inspired authors haven't swapped places with Harlequin Blaze writers [...]

Carla Capshaw's third book in the gladiator series is just as enjoyable as the other two were, if not better! I've tried to think about what makes The Champion such a favorite of mine, and I came up with a few things: The author makes ancient Rome come alive with her descriptions and storyline, and it seems like you are there and involved. Her characters have such a delightful way of interaction at times, with playful, teasing banter. Many other authors today have their characters act like they [...]

Another great book in the series. I have enjoyed each one because they really transport you to Roman times and give you a glimpse of the life of early Christians. So unique. I am sad that this is the last book in the series!

Alexius and Tibi captured my heart from the start in this fast-paced final book in Ms Capshaw's Roman trilogy. I, for one, will miss these heroes and heroines of the ancient world who risked death to follow Christ. Great romance and great adventure all wrapped in deep faith. Bravo!

Alexius is amazing. Just saying While I did not really experience the unsavory side of him, I still saw the fallout of his past actions in a way to make his struggles believable. That he was willing to take in Tibi even though it could cost him his fortune made him a hero in my eyes. He did everything to protect her and to encourage her to be herself.Tibi was a bit more confusing to me. She had a brutally abusive father yet was uncowed and was beautiful yet did not know it (as many heroines are) [...]

I love how the marriage of convenience theme is loosely played in this story, and I was really amazed with the author's description during the Roman times.Very enjoyable read and the book makes me feel as if I was transported in time to the times where Gladiators fights for their lives and honour in the Coliseum. 3.5 StarsCapshaw has woven a beautiful tale of love and healing. Love between Alexius and Tibi that flows as easily as a river, a rocky rough start that ends in a slow calming current. The story had good flow for the most part. The week Alexius and Tibi spend together is the perfect time for each to get to know the other deeper and realize they are good for each other. Circumstances rip them apart before they are completely committed to life together, but that only makes them realize what they a [...]

My first thought after finishing is I just want me a good Gladiator now. ;) Yum, yum, such a fun hero! I have been dying for this book, and ordered it the minute I heard it was available! I loved Carla's third installment of her Gladiator series, and I hope she keeps on going. *hint hint* I never tire of the setting, and her characters you can feel come alive like you are right there beside them I learned so much about true faith and courage, how love can truly changes lives, and what it really [...]

I really enjoyed this one! Each of the 3 gladiator stories was unique and inspiring. I especially like the fact that Tibi and Alexius found, in each other, the source of self worth they had been missing. And the fact that their faith healed their spirits. This will take its place among my favorites.

I loved this book so much I read it in two days. This is the first of Ms. Capshaw's that I've read, and I'll definitely be getting her other books. Her vivid descriptions and attention to detail brings the setting of Rome alive. Her characters are well-written. I was really rooting for Tibi and Alexius. A keeper!

I've really enjoyed reading the books in Carla's Roman series. The Champion was just as good as The Gladiator and The Protector and I think its hero was my favorite of the three. Carla's characters always have a tragic past that could break them but always make them stronger. It makes it easy to BE INSPIRED.

The Champion by Carla Capshaw is part of a series that takes place in Ancient Rome. Ancient Rome happens to be one of my favorite historical settings, and that is what compelled me to buy this book. I’ve not read the other books in the series, but that didn’t at all hinder my ability to enjoy this book.I must admit, this book surprised me. While the author’s writing style isn’t especially complex, it is still pleasing. I found Ms. Capshaw to be a capable writer and enjoyed her writing st [...]

Sadly, this was the last of the series. All three of these stories: The Gladiator, The Protector, and The Champion were amazing reads. They all make it into books I would recommend for people who like clean romance and a good story with a little bit of action/fighting in it. I have written a review on my blog for all of them if you wish to stay on my blog a little bit longer. As you can tell from the description, this book was about the crowds favorite gladiator Alexius of Iolcos and Tiberia the [...]

Very good plot, very VERY good plot. 5 stars for that alone. Ancient Rome is one of my favorite era's in history. However, there seemed to be some kind of disconnect. Firstly The cover seems to suggest it's some kinda trashy porno book. Seems to cheapen the whole thing. So likes and dislikesLikes-How she portrayed the persecution of Christians. -The two main characters actually had pages of conversation together, so you could see how they fell in love. It wasn't just some "magical glance" and som [...]

The champion is the first Carla Capshaw book I've ever read and I really loved it!I loved the way that the book bounces from one character's point of view to the others because I love to examine what every character is thinking about the situations rather than just one. What really took my interest though was the amount of love expressed between the two main characters. I really liked this book. Carla does a great job with this setting, and I hope to see more in the future. I felt this book wasn't as good as the first one, though. I think it was the heroine more than the hero. Tiberia felt a bit immature to me, but she was the youngest of her family. When she is to marry an old man and balks, her father is furious and orders her to become a temple priestess, something that goes against her faith. Alexius was a great hero and I thought that his progression throu [...]
