I'm fond of John Currin's paintings, but the honest reason I sought out this book was its inclusion of new short stories by Wells Tower. The book itself describes them as a collection of short fictional essays, none longer than two pages. I was initially disappointed by this, but came to admire Tower's ability to communicate some rather complete feeling stories in very few words.
