I'm glad I read this. I read another Mark Beamon book and didn't like it as well. This one lets Mark be his odd, brilliant, self-destructive self and it gets him involved with an entire world of interesting characters. This was more of a character driven thriller; not edge of your seat, can't put it down.I loved the author's sense of humor. The plot is complicated enough to be worth rereading to pick up all of the details missed the first time through. It was written just after 9/11 and made some [...]

Struggled to get going with this book - got more interesting partway through but plot felt convoluted and at the end I just wanted it to be done.

Okay, but dependent on too many unrealistic scenarios for its plausibility. A bit disappointing.

Kyle Mills has made a lot of cash on Tom Clancy calling him a promising writer. I've now read three or four of his books, and he's getting progressively worse. I like his FBI agent, Mark Beamon, and this book is at its best when it is about him and a shady global crime boss. The first 50 to 100 pages are terrible, and I almost tossed this one aside, something I've only learned to do with books in the past couple of years. The last 350 pages are worth it only if you go for the sort of yarn where [...]

With a subtle but great sense of humor, Mills weaves a story of organized crime vs the CIA/FBI. Mark Beamon is a very smart man. How could someone so smart be so miserable in his new promotion as FBI SAC (agent in charge)? A rocket launcher finds it's way into the US. Mark's friend, Laura Vilechi has been given the responsibility to track it down and eliminate the problem, but she's running into one dead end after another. When she runs various scenarios by Mark, little does she or he know that [...]

This book was also disappointing. It was enjoyable to read and fairly entertaining, but it was still not very well written or anything that I would recommend to someone else. The trend of his books getting worse and worse seems to have continued, although I don't know that this was worse than the others, just not any better. The plot idea isn't bad and the character development isn't too bad, but he doesn't piece it together very well. My recommendation is still to read his first novel, "Rising [...]

One of a series featuring the character, Marc Beamon. While the timeline of the books is sequential, each book is its own story so you don't necessarily have to read them in order. The character ages from book to book and he makes vague references to the cases that each book covered but, other than that, you can read them in any order. This is the last, sniff(hopefully not), book in the Marc Beamon series. I have read this book 4 times. It's great! I would recommend this book to anyone who can r [...]

***Three and half stars ****I thought I like political genre but this one is a little too predictable for me? It's amalgam of movies I have seen before, although to be honest there is one twist that made me cheered! Kyle Mills is not a bad writer, but his character is sort of plain and not exciting. His plot has some fresh ideas into it with conspiracy element of CIA involvement in heroin trade in Afghanistan. But that's it; yet the book stretches that element till too far. The only character I [...]

The name of the main character is Mark Beamon, and I am sure that I have read one of the previous books about him. This is a convoluted tale involving FBI mostly, some CIA, a gangster and his crew, various crime figures in different parts of the world, plus money, drugs, and nuclear weapons. At times it is quite exciting. The Denver ost called it 'AN EXCELLENT TAUT THRILLER,' which rather sums it up.

Mark Beamon has been promoted to SAC of the Phoenix FBI office, a job beyond his expertise. He is asked to do a little under cover work and is thus drawn into a bizarre and dangerous investigation involving terrorists, heroin, international criminal minds, and rockets smuggled into the United States with heroin shipments from the Middle East.

Mark Beamon is a Special Agent in Charge of an FBI office in Arizona. He becomes involved in a terrorist plot against the US which involves him with the mob, the CIA, an international crimelord, and significant others in other worldwide countries. The author does a good job entertaining and writing this political intrigue story without any major shocks to one's system.

A Fine Thriller by Kyle Mills. I read this series a little out of order so for me this is the last book of the five in this series. I wish that I had read them in order as this spoiled the ending for me. Otherwise a good read. One of my reading goals for 2014 is to read the rest of the books by this author.

This one is over the topCIA is giving terrorist weapons in Afghanistan (again) to disrupt the flow of heroin, so they can cut funding of another terrorist group. The one CIA supported group smuggles some of these weapons into continental US Now the CIA start killing people to cover it up.Not all that implausible . I am have already started my next Kyle Mills novel

Very interesting to have Mark off the reservation for real - that he's actually a really good criminal is pretty impressive and the master criminal's musings on what's legal vs what's illegal are interesting. Solid book in a very good series.

I love this book! Mark Beamon is one of my favorite characters and I particularly like watching him face his crossroads and deciding which path to go down. Michael Kramer, as always, is the perfect narrator.

Excellent book. The Mob, the CIA, FBI, Afghans, Laotians, this book has it all. It took me a while to sort out who all the characters were, but it was well worth it. I would definitely read another in this series.
