3.5/5 stars. The first half was worth 4/5, the second 3/5.

3.5 stars HmmmmI think I might be being stingy with the star rating here but ahhhhh, this series is becoming bloody convoluted!! *clutches head* I found myself re-reading several pages since I hadn't a clue what was going on at times :/ which has really started to affect my enjoyment of the series.Just when you thought the plot couldn't possibly be any more intricate, Ohba adds a hundred other things in to the mix! No wonder my head feels like a goldfish bowl! I'm also still not over my heartbre [...]

This was definitely my least favourite volume, but come the ending I am eager to see how this series wraps up.

(CONTAINS SPOILERS) I will begin my review by saying this book wasn't the best compared to the other volumes. There were some slow parts but I felt that it gave me a better understanding of the story. Also, throughout volume 10 I felt as if I had read and been through that part already: Near is basically a mini L and suspects Light as being Kira, just as L did. He finds out what Light is doing and tries to provide evidence for his theories but is still unsure. Near has similar traits to L such a [...]

3.5Not the best volume, but not the worst either. Mello and Near are interesting indeed, but they're not L. They do keep me on my toes, but I don't think that it was necessary to continue the story with them to be honest.

These are getting better. But I'm starting to worry I'll be severely disappointed with the ending now.

3.5 My least favorite so far, took me far too long to read and I usually fly through these! However, it's still good, and I got sucked back in towards the end. I'm excited and nervous for the next and final edition!

Near is like a miniature version of L's character. I love it! He's just as weird yet genius at what he does. I think that although L was a perfect match of intelligence for Kira, Near just may have what it takes to bring down Kira. I think that may be because he is motivated by revenge as opposed to just doing a job.

As some people have previously noted this is the most boring and repetitive volume out of all Especially volume 11. But towards the end of volume 12 things are finally getting exciting and interesting.Volume 11: 3.5Volume 12: 4.25

I think this is the point in the series where maybe it should have ended already. Oh the plot is just as intricate as ever, it's just that it's been intricate for five volumes now and quite frankly I'm having a hard time following exactly what is going on, or why characters are doing what they're doing. I'm still eager to see how the conflict between Light, Near and Mello resolves, and whether Light achieves his dream of a "perfect" world. I'm also enjoying how Light's complex position is making [...]

Volume 8 was a bit dull but the story again picked up in this volume. Vol 9 was better than vol 8 but volume 10 was great. We start seeing the good old Light In this volume. The new set of characters introduced in this volume were pretty good. I am too excited to see how this is all going to wrap up but at the same time I don't want this series to end.

8.5/10This was a really cool, solid volume. There was kinda a switch/ change that happened in volume 4, and that took a little while to adjust to that change, but now that I've adjusted to it, I really enjoy the direction that it's going now. Can't wait to see what happens in the final volume!

Like: another interesting character is introduced and the story is still amazing!Dislike: all the female characters are useless on their own and only there to be 'used'. All the cool and smart characters are male. By now it is clear that that was not just a coincidence in the previous mangas, the trend continues :(

What can I say? Fortunately as pacey as ever; I whizzed through these two volumes in merely a day. Light Yagami is still an arsehole. I still hate him every fibre of my being. I'm still wishing and hoping and praying that he at last gets his comeuppance in the final two volumes, preferably in the form of the stickiest of sticky ends (seriously, if Yagami doesn't bite the dust in the end, I may have to set fire to things). Sexism can still be found in abundance to the point I cannot ignore it ("M [...]

Reason for Reading: Next in the series. This is the second last book in the "Black Edition" of this series, which combines 2 volumes into one book. With volumes 9 and 10 of the series combined here, as expected, is a powerhouse packed full of action and wits and logic facing against each other as L is joined by Mello and Near in tracking down Kira. Another major character is killed off in this volume and it was a major shock that I did not see coming. If one thought L was strange the two new char [...]

I am loving this series! So much is starting to happen and come together now. I can't wait to see how it all ends. The first half of this book I thought was a little slow but it started to pick up pace just before the halfway point.

Disappointing. What sucks. 1) Dragging. The story should have finished when Light defeated L. Whilst Mello and Near are good characters, they are not really enough to justify the same complex story going around in circles. Just get on with it already. 2) Sexism. I cannot ignore this anymore. The only strong female character was killed back in the first book. All the female characters are weak - and described that way directly in this volume. They seem to only exist, which is rare, to be dumb sex [...]

With good Sherlock gone, the series has lots its brilliantly antagonistic focus. It was a nervy move, though - how can anyone now oppose bad Sherlock? Even a new good Sherlock has to play catch-up, though he has some help from amoral Sherlock. This new tripartite arrangement can't replicate the intimacy of the original mind-games, so it's just as well we're left with one more volume to wrap things up. Surely Kira is headed for a downfall and the only question is how it comes about?

What I have realised aboutDeath Noteis that there are practically no female characters in the series. Apart from Misa, who is treated (and kind of is) an incompetent child for whom is only for Light to use and manipulate, there has only been a handful of ladies in all five volumes so far, none of which have stayed around for long.

The book is awesome! I enjoyed every moment of it and it is kinda sad that I'm left with 1 last volume before the story ends. Although L is gone, I still enjoyed the confrontation between Light and Near and Mello. I can't wait to see how it turns out in the end.

Brilliant as always, but the complete lack of character depth with ANY female character was more striking in these volumes than ever before. I really wasn't sure how to rate it because the plot was still so good after all, even though it's not quite the same as it was with the real L.
